London Road and Britannia

Britannia Inn

Britannia today

The above postcard shows the London Road in about 1905, with the Britannia Inn and its large stable on the right. Beyond the inn is Mount Pleasant, the Royal Standard inn sign, and then Fair View Terrace, an early nineteenth-century row of large houses demolished in the 1980s.

The top third of Lime Walk comprised the Britannia Field at this time. See the page on the Britannia in the Pubs history section.
