Barn at Mather’s Farm, Barton Lane

This nineteenth-century barn, which is now a private house, was part of Mather’s Farm until the 1970s. The words “Good Intent” appear on several of the rafters, and Malcolm Graham believes that the timbers may have been brought from the Baltic in a ship of that name:
Planning permission was granted in 1954 for four pig sties at Mather's Farm in Barton Lane on land to the east of the barn (54/04081/A_H).
In May 1955 planning permission was granted to Magdalen College for the change of use in principle of Mather’s Barn to a workshop for furniture repair and an extension to provide an office and w.c. (55/00374/D_H).
In 1970 outline planning permission was granted to convert the barn into a single dwelling house (70/22516/A_H), and full permission came in July 1973 (73/00942/L_H). In 1988 permission was granted to convert it into two separate dwellings (88/00590/NFH)
