5G phone masts in Headington area

Originally 5G masts in the UK were allowed to have a maximum elevation of 25m (and 20m in protected areas), but in July 2020 the Government brought in new laws allowing 5G masts to be built closer to highways and main roads and at heights of up to 50m. 5G uses frequencies of up to eighteen times that of 4G.

So far permission has been granted for five 5G masts and ancillary equipment in Headington, while three have been rejected.

5G mast at Barton
Headington's first 5G monopole (EE):
20 metres high, it stands at the top of Bayswater
Road near the Headington roundabout

5G mast at Quarry
Headington's second 5G monopole (Vodafone):
20 metres high, it stands at the junction of Spring Lane
& Trinity Road. Behind it is a smaller 4G mast

Mast at Old Road
Headington's third 5G monopole (Vodafone):
20m high, it stands outside the Nuffield
Orthopaedic Centre, facing Old Road
