Headington and older people

Headington has a high proportion of elderly people. The 2001 census showed that in the central Headington ward (despite the large number of students), 11.5% of the population was aged between 60 and 74, and 11.8% was aged 75 and over.

  • The British Red Cross for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire offers support and can also provide mobility aids. They do not charge, but are pleased to receive a donation. While the Westgate Centre is closed, if you cannot get to Abingdon to collect your wheelchair etc, you can prebook it by phone and get it from the Red Cross van in Wickes car park on the Botley Road on Wednesdays between 2.30 and 3.30pm (information correct as at September 2015: double-check with Red Cross)
