Stansfeld Park (2019)

Stansfeld Park

This sculpture was unveiled at Stansfeld Park on 13 March 2019 to celebrate the 90th birthdays of Sir Martin and Lady Wood, who founded the Oxford Trust in 1985. It was designed by David Harber.

Omega is the symbol used to represent an ohm (the unit of electrical resistance) and here the two ohms represent Sir Martin's link with the University of Oxford's Physics Department where he first developed the superconducting magnets now used in MRI scanners.

They also represent both the scanner itself and the partnership of the Woods, and each omega is enclircled with 90 small copper rings, one for each year of their life.
