The art seating just to the east of the Innovation Building on the Old Road campus is laid out in separate sections (“cells”), as shown above. It is part of a major sculpture/landscape collaboration between an artist and landscape designer.

LDA Design, which created the art seating, say that “the Cells feel like intimate spaces ideal for small group meetings or individual working/relaxation”.
This is the second of three artworks planned in the Old Road Campus Public Art Strategy, which addresses the whole site with the establishment of an “aggregated” public art budget, which, rather than being linked to individual buildings, is utilized strategically. The University considers that the Oxford City Council planning guidance for public art should be viewed as an opportunity rather than a requirement.
