The Dragon in Magdalen Wood, off Wood Farm (2015)
This photograph was taken in 2015, and the tail of the dragon has deteriorated since that date
This dragon sculpture is in Magdalen Wood (which is reached from Atkyns Road or Nuffield Road in Wood Farm). The head is made of hazelwood and there is a a 150-feet tail of coppiced hazel and willow that was intended to grow. It was the winner of an Oxford Preservation Trust Certificate in 2015.
It was created by Oxford sculptor Stuart Turner in association with the Oxford Play Association, the University of Oxford, the Go Wild Project, and Oxford City Council. A grant was obtained from the Trust for Oxfordshire Environment (TOE2), with funds from Grundon Waste Management. .
